Solen Collet

Art House 8
Address: 30/3 Bath Street
Open: 7/8 and 14/15 September

A celebration of connection to self, to nature and to the present moment, Solen will be showing an exhibition of photographic self-portraiture, writing and works made with the sun and sea.

Solen uses creative play as a way of processing difficult experiences and turning them into spirit-full exploration. This art house features an exhibition journeying through digital and analogue photographic self-portraiture, along with risograph prints and poetry. Solen has been a commercial photographer for over a decade but began making self-portraits as a way of coming to terms with becoming a single parent in 2016. Her ‘Red Room’ series was born with a self-portrait made in 2019 as a way of discussing her experience of living with Poland Syndrome, a rare congenital birth defect. Since then, self-portraiture has become a language for exploring autonomy, grief, love, desire and has opened up a world for connecting with self, with others and building a world to get lost and found within.

Solen will also show a selection of giclee seascape prints and one-off handmade cyanotypes created on the beach with found flotsam, exposed by the sun and fixed by the sea.

Solen has been a fulltime commercial photographer for 12 years, since studying photography at Edinburgh College 2010 – 2012. She is based at Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Leith and regularly takes part in group resident exhibitions and events there.
