Art House 9
Address: 53 Windsor Place
Open: 2/3 and 9/10 September

Sarah Knox is well-known for her atmospheric oil paintings, watercolours and prints which gorgeously conjure the shoreline landscapes of the Hebrides, the Firth of Forth and the highlands.
Sarah is inspired by the sensation of nature and atmosphere and in this threatened and eroding landscape her enquiry remains vital. She makes field notes en plein air which she then develops in the studio and in this context her artwork evolves away from a strictly observed memory of place and becomes more abstract and liminal. She is open to creative play and brings years of art teaching to inspire her work. Drawings and studies evolve into colour beginnings in monotypes, watercolour, acrylic or oil. She paints on canvas or board and explores the textures and weights of different papers. She loves to layer and pour paint and medium in oils and with this approach she recreates the lightness of touch and the movement of watercolour.
About Sarah recently received a VACMA award 2023 to pursue lithography at Edinburgh Printmakers and to further push the boundaries of her art practice.
She is a freelance educator for National Galleries of Scotland and various art groups.
Recent solo exhibitions include Artist in Residence, Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, Edinburgh; There You Feel Free, Doubtfire Gallery, Edinburgh; Lost Worlds, Dawyck Botanic Gardens, Borders and she has exhibited at Porty Artwalk every year since 2017.
