Jumbo Joppa, how much is enough? An outdoor 3D installation that makes commentary on the trend/undercurrent to extend, build up, build out and modify domestic homes in the Joppa area.
Richard is interested in people and place, using site specific installations to bring communities together to share stories and raise awareness of Issues including wellbeing, environment, moments. Underpinning my creative practice is an interest in storytelling and building community through making. This can include 2D,3D and moving image media. Recent works have included site specific installations created in different outdoor environments, including urban, beach, forest and mountain contexts. A limited kit of materials and tools are taken to site which become the parameters of the making process. Each work was created responding to observed moments in nature and time, and installed and removed in one day, leaving no trace.

Richard has spent his professional career working in the creative industries as a designer/maker, predominately in the museum and exhibition sector working nationally and internationally. Alongside his industry practice he works in art and design education and collaborates on art/design projects with programmes in Scandinavia, the Netherlands and France. In recent years he has started to realise a long-held ambition to produce more personal art-based works and this year’s Art Walk has provided an opportunity to develop work about the community in which he lives.
