Art Walk Projects is now inviting proposals for a funded research residency as part of its upcoming FALLOW LAND six-month autumn/winter programme, centred on agricultural land in/around Portobello, Craigentinny and the Scottish Borders.
The Residue Residency comprises a new research based, community building residency focussed around post agricultural farming land and the legacy of waste in the coastal zone, specifically in/around Craigentinny, North East Edinburgh.
The residency will take its inspiration from the historical irrigated meadows of Craigentinny, once the site for dairy farming, a fertile agricultural land that was drained by the open sewers from the city centre into the sea, to consider the impact of farming industries on marine health and coastal zones.
The selected artist will work closely with Rosy Naylor, Art Walk Projects, curator, and Prof. Larissa Naylor (geomorphologist, University of Glasgow) for scientific perspective (no relation) to develop their project.
‘Residue’ forms one of four residencies as part of the Fallow Land project, working alongside artists Henna Asikainen, Rudy Kanhye & Lauren La Rose, and James Wyness.
The residency will take place over six months (amounting to in region of 20 days) and will culminate in an exhibition alongside an accompanying publication and a series of public events.
