Juliana will be showing a collection of ceramic and found object sculptures responding to the magnitude of dead sea birds washing up along the coastline. An undercurrent of unease unfolds at the simultaneous beauty and horror, a talisman for our times.
This show represents a new body of work consisting of handmade found object and ceramic sculptures. These broken feathery harbingers are open breasted, open hearted, handmade from broken umbrellas and porcelain clay. Installed in an outdoor exhibition, these waterproof yet fragile creatures. This body of work is inspired by the proliferation of seabirds being washed up along the East coast of Scotland over the last few years and the unease at what undercurrents have lead to their demise including climate change, invasive species, exploitation of the marine environment, marine litter and pollution.
