James Donald

Art House 3
Address: 16 Rosefield Place
Open: 7/8 and 14/14 September

Hand weaving under the label PickOne since 1997 James Donald will be showcasing handwoven fabrics from his unique current collections taking visually inspiration from the slow craft of sashiko stitching.

After graduating from art school in 1993 James Donald established his hand woven label, PickOne in 1997 and currently works from two studios spaces within the creative Coburg House Art Studios complex, based in the Shore area of Leith, Edinburgh. His weaving process is one of growth, the natural way in which one activity flows into another until finally one begins the physical act of weaving. He takes pleasure from the way cloth grows during the weaving process, the fluid movement of one cloth evolving into the next. Finding this flexibility of designing on a fairly rigid structure is also one of the pleasurable challenges of weaving beautiful cloth by hand. The evolution of ideas and thought processes is essential in finding the perfect solution, if there is in fact a perfect solution. This is a never ending journey of discovery.
