Join artist Sherry Wang in a drop-in session to create a beach-based windbreak installation using cloth dyed or painted with locally sourced edible plants. You are invited to work with the plants—grinding, thickening, and painting—to explore the diverse range of colours found in Portobello’s flora.
The windbreak installation will be in-situ on Portobello Beach as part of our Thrift events for the duration of the second weekend (14-15 September) inviting interaction and conversation.
Feel free to drop-in anytime during Sun 8 September 3pm-5pm to join in with making the windbreak installation (no need to book).
Sherry Wang works with natural materials. Her ongoing exploration with plants focus on dyeing, pigment making, and fiber-based practices, as well as the connection between human-plant relationships, place, memory and culture.
Immersed in the vitality of plants, both as materials in dyes and pigments and their social significance, her practice emphasizes deep bodily engagement. This includes walking, searching, touching, gathering, as well as grinding, boiling, and filtering, all in interaction with the environment and materials.
