As part of our ongoing Field-Studies in Radical Mycography Project with Myceliart Collective, Rhyze Mushrooms present this workshop, the second of two events running through the Art Walk Porty Festival.
Discover the exciting potential of Mycomaterials and make your own tea light holder. Mycomaterials made from fungi are being used to build everything from bricks, to boats to spaceships. In this 15 minute mini-workshop you will learn more about how mycomaterials could be a sustainable replacement for plastic and other toxic and/or scarce materials and get some hands-on experience making your own tea light holder using mycelium.
Rhyze runs Edinburgh’s Community Mushroom Farm which works to turn trash into food. In 2021, they built a mushroom farm inside a 40 ft shipping container using upcycled materials wherever they could. Their mushrooms are grown on urban waste streams that would otherwise end up in landfills, including: sawdust, coffee chaff, spent brewer’s grain, and cacao husks.
