Berries, berries, berries

Come and learn more about berries and their significance and use throughout history, and get hands on with preserving them yourself with Lucy Watkins. We welcome you to bring your own locally foraged berries from the Portobello area, and Lucy will work with you to prolong the life of these delicate fruits in preparation for the hibernation season. Berries have been valuable as a food source for humans since before the start of agriculture over 12,000 years ago. They were a seasonal staple for early hunter-gatherers, providing a much needed vitamin boost to keep away any potential illness for the coming autumn/winter. Nature has always produced what humans need year round, we just need to tune back into these rhythms and see what’s blooming in our local area.

Lucy is a climate-driven designer, cook and baker, and also a member of Slow Food Glasgow. One of her goals is to encourage more people to connect with and contribute to their local food system, creating one which is more environmentally and socially more sustainable.
