Em Whiteford is an artist and maker based in both Cumbria & Scotland whose work is deeply inspired by wild coastlines, uplands and the tempestuous skies of the North.
Within her paintings, Em seeks to create a visceral response to the power, movement and profound emotions evoked by Northern landscapes. She aspires to create work which blurs the line between the self and the surrounding landscape, in a place where a deeper connection to the natural world can emerge. She uses expressive gestures, diversity of texture and a palette filled with the organic hues of the environments she immerses herself in. Each colour, brush stroke and mark made, carrying the power, movement and emotional weight of the landscapes they represent in the paint.
Having studied in Cumbria, she has exhibited around the North of England and throughout Scotland, holding her first solo show in the seaside town of Kirkcudbright in 2024.
