Chris makes functional ceramic tableware. His aim is to leave a trace that someone, not something, made his work. His pots are made for daily contemporary eating and drinking.
Chris studied ceramics in Calgary and Nova Scotia, Canada. He makes tableware from his studio at Cyan Clayworks in Edinburgh. His intention is to bridge the rich industrial ceramic heritage in the UK with surfaces and formal considerations developed through the British and American Studio Pottery movements. His focus is to create objects to enhance contemporary cooking, eating and drinking experiences. How a vessel works on a practical level is important; he pays a lot of attention to details such as feet, handles, and weight. For him, pots should not only be practical but beautiful objects in their own right. The surface is important too; often his work includes hand printed lino patterns, slip decoration or richly glazed surfaces.
