Applications are now open from 1st February to 1st March 2020 for those wishing to participate in our 'Art House Weekends' programme as part of the 2020 Art Walk.

All artists wishing to open up their home, studio or garden space in Portobello are welcome to apply.

'Art House Weekends' will be open:
Sat 5th + Sun 6th Sept
and Sat 12th + Sun 13th Sept 2020

Criteria, Information + Prices

We are keen to hear from artists across all disciplines wishing to take part in this year's event who demonstrate evidence of a clear and coherent approach to their art practice, showing quality through their work presented, as well as offering suitability of venue (ie an accessible, domestic non-commercial space).

We also welcome creative approaches to the exhibiting of work and to artists who may wish to respond to AWP20's theme of 'Groundwork'- with eco-art centred work that connects to issues of the environment or sustainability, urban ecology, greening of the city, edible landscapes, mapping; and to the physicalness of work, from industrial labour, to the work & labour of art. This year forms the second year of Creative Scotland's funded 'Land Mark residencies', that will form the focal point for the public realm works with projects relating to the kilns, Baileyfield, Telferton Allotments & other working landscapes.

Cost to participate: 2 weekends £125 | 1 weekend £75
Additional artists: if more than 1 artist exhibiting at venue - extra fee per artist of £25 per booking (to max of 2 additional artists)
A commission is payable at 10% of any sales over £2000 per venue

Artworks shown are to be original work from the artist submitting the form. Extra artists at same venue are required to complete a separate form.

As in 2019 we will again be producing a separate 'Artist Guide' for the Art Houses to accompany the Art Walk Map. This will include one image for each participating artist and in the region of 30 words detailing their work. Participants will also each have a page on our website, and be promoted via social media.
They will also be expected to promote their own 'Art House' in the lead up to the event (guidance will be given).

Artists are welcome to organise their own preview evenings on the Fridays. Venues will be publicised as open to the public on the Sats + Suns only.

Artists wishing to run workshops, talks, performances or live-art as part of their 'Art House' are more than welcome too, please include details on your completed form.

Want to take part but dont live in Portobello?
We accept applications from artists living elsewhere but artists will be required to find their own location/house.

The Selection Process

In the region of 30 'Art Houses' will be invited to participate resulting out of a selection process that will involve two external assessors along with members of the Art Walk Committee.
