Art House 33
8A Dalkeith Street
Open: 7/8 and 14/15 September, 10am-6pm
By Appointment: 9-13 September

Alison has created an installation utilising some of the many portraits she has drawn of artists from around the world during weekly one hour speed drawing events on Zoom.

Every week for over a year Alison joined hundreds of other artists on Zoom for a one hour speed drawing event. During the hour artists are chosen to pose for the length of a song, with each pose lasting 2 to 4 minutes. Around 15 or so portraits are speedily created by each of the many artists and the results shared on Instagram. Having always been fascinated by portraiture it is a real privilege to spend even a few minutes drawing these artists in what can sometimes be quite an intimate experience. After a 30 year pause in making any art, the pandemic gave Alison the opportunity to take tentative steps back into drawing. The online speed portrait sessions provided a safe and hugely supportive community in which to do that. What initially felt like a potentially sterile environment for creating art quickly became an essential weekly habit.
