Information & Submission Process

We are delighted to be able to offer local artists the chance to open up their studios, homes and gardens once again as part of 'Art Walk Porty' ART HOUSES programme.

Applications are now open for submission, with a deadline of 25th April. This year we are encouraging artists to consider including outdoor spaces if they can as part of their application, such as a front garden, or patio, shed or a shared green perhaps. We may need to restrict numbers at any one time to indoor spaces, and will provide advice on this nearer the time.

We are keen to hear from artists wishing to take part in this year's event who demonstrate evidence of a clear, well thought through and coherent approach to their art practice, showing quality and consistency across their work presented.

This year's Art Houses programme will be curated, with in the region of 25 houses/locations invited to participate.

We welcome creative approaches to the exhibiting of work and to artists who may wish to embrace our 2021 theme of ‘Assemble’ [working title] – making connections near and far.

‘Assemble’ will involve the following strands, with a number of events held across the summer including the Sept 'Art Walk Porty':
local territories: living locally while considering the global
conversing with the elsewhere: pairing place (Portobello as a hub)
environments for change: seas & waters, pollution, ecology, food value
strands: as cloth, as fibres, as emblems for connection
artivism: art as a means for activating debate - art as a physical act
- reviewing arts social value

Cost to participate: 2 weekends £125 | 1 weekend £75 - Additional artists: if more than 1 artist exhibiting at venue - extra fee per artist of £25 per booking (to max of 2 additional artists)
A commission is payable at 10% on any sales over £2000 per venue

Below are some images from the last event in 2019 featuring some of Portobello's artists as well as our printed guide, and overall Art Walk map. We are currently reviewing the format of the printed material for the 2021 Art Houses programme. Further details will be provided here shortly.
