'Cressida, The Tidal Octopus'
'Cressida' will be returning to our beach in time for this year's Art Walk, reinstalled for hardier conditions. She is sponsored by The Velvet Easel Gallery, 298 Portobello High Street. Only fully visible at low tide, at high tide a few tentacles appearing emerging out of the water's surface.
Lauren makes things to inspire curiosity. There is a language in metal that allows her to create fluid and gentle shapes from tough and sometimes unforgiving material. She is inspired by her love of the underwater world, and driven by a sense of adventure and possibility.
During her training as a sculptor in Barcelona, she discovered her language in working with metal. She returned to Scotland and did an apprenticeship as a welder in a steelyard in Leith, Edinburgh, and her skills with the material have allowed her to develop her own practice, and be free to explore new directions as they emerge.
Lauren's work is represented by the Velvet Easel, Portobello - as well as the Marchmont Gallery, Edinburgh, and Tighnabruaich Gallery in Argyll.
